Apple announced today that after weeks of developer testing and public testing, iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 will be available to all users next week. Early this morning, Apple has pushed the iOS/iPadOS 15.4 RC update to iPhone and iPad users (build number: 19E241). This update is 6 weeks after the last release.
iOS 15.4 includes major new features for iPhone users, most notably the ability to use Face ID to unlock the device while wearing a mask. Apple says the Face ID system has been able to uniquely identify the area around a user’s eyes, and that information can be used to unlock the device even when wearing a mask. The feature is only available on iPhone 12 and later.
In iPadOS 15.4, the biggest update is support for Universal Control, a feature that allows users to use one mouse and keyboard across multiple Macs and iPads for a seamless user experience.
iOS and iPadOS 15.4 also include other new changes and new features, such as 37 new emojis, tap to pay, and more. The update also includes enhancements to AirTags, the option to add custom domains to iCloud Mail directly on the device, and more. Updated release notes will be published next week after the update goes live.
