Sony keeps its promises: the Japanese company, almost a year after the promise of the update to users, has begun to implement VRR (variable refresh rate) for its 2021 line of smart TVs with Bravia XR processor and support for Google TV, capable of going up to 120 Hz of peak frequency.
The VRR technology we are talking about is the one that allows displays to adapt their refresh rate based on the content shown, so as to lower to a minimum in the case of static content (text, images) and to increase as the content is “lively”.
Sony’s Bravia XR TVs are among the best Google TVs on the market: however, the lack of VRR was felt, especially for gamers. To take advantage of VRR, however, it is necessary that the source device (from which the TV takes the content shown) is compatible with it: for example, the Xbox Series X and Series S are able to take advantage of VRR; the Sony PlayStation 5 is not yet compatible with VRR.
BREAKING: Sony has started rolling out the long-awaited VRR firmware update on the company’s 2021 TVs with BRAVIA XR processor. It popped up on my Sony A90J OLED (US model) when I checked for updates on the TV this morning. pic.twitter.com/o58tVPMnV4
