Last week, Sony showed off the final design for the PlayStation VR2. As a virtual reality headset accessory for PS5, it adopts a ring design and spherical controller, which can bring players an outstanding 360° gaming experience.
Unfortunately, from 2021 to the present, consumers have been slow to take it into their pockets. However, a recent YouTube video, “PSVR without Parole” revealed that it is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2023.
Many speculate that the choice to launch in 2023 rather than 2022 is mainly because 15 months after launch, the PS5 console is still in short supply. Not to mention the overall design of the PS VR2, which largely suggests that it was designed for the PS5 (and not the PS4/PS4 Pro).
Sony has previously denied the release window of the fourth quarter of 2022, and supply chain shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have plagued the hemisphere semiconductor industry for a long time.
The PSVR Without Parole channel added:
With equipment still in short supply and the platform lacking a large PS5 user base, the reliance on the PS5 means that PS VR2 cannot succeed on its own. A blind release would not only hurt potential sales of the PS VR2, but would also leave a lot of gamers frustrated.
The reality shows that even if Sony is working hard to crack down on scalpers, the lack of capacity supply is still a hurdle that is difficult to overcome.
