Microsoft said on Monday that it will remove the mobile application of Russian state media “Russia Today” TV from the Windows 11/10 App Store, and ban advertising on Russian government-backed media. Last week, Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine.
Microsoft said it would not display any content from Russia’s state-run media, Russia Today and Sputnik, and lower their rankings in Bing search results, nor would it place any ads from its ad network on those sites. .
Western tech companies, including Facebook parent Meta and Google, have previously imposed restrictions on Russia’s state-owned media outlets in Ukraine and around the world.
