The Apple Watch is expected to gain traction again later this year, with people familiar with the matter revealing that major upgrades are expected in both design and functionality.
But on the other hand, the Cupertino-based tech giant also appears to want to make some changes to the existing Apple Watch lineup, as the company may eventually drop the Series 3 model.
The Series 3 line was introduced years ago but is still available as a cheap alternative to the latest, more premium Apple Watch model, which is expected to be retired later this year, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
It’s unclear if Apple wants a newer model to replace the Series 3 as a cheap alternative to the latest generation of watches, but given Apple’s big bet on the Apple Watch SE, it doesn’t make much sense.
The Series 3 was launched by Apple in 2017, and it’s almost five years old. The company launched it with much fanfare, raving about its features at the time:
Whether users are out for a run, at the pool, or just wanting to be more active during the day, the Apple Watch Series 3 with a phone allows them to stay connected, make calls, receive text messages, and more, even when there’s no iPhone nearby.
3rd Generation Apple The Watch is an amazing health and fitness companion, with smart coaching, 50-meter water resistance1 and a new barometric altimeter that measures relative altitude. Apple said at the time: Apple Watch Series 3 comes in two models, one is one with GPS and mobile phone, and the other with GPS, both use 70% faster dual-core processors and new wireless chips.
For now, it’s hard to tell whether the rumors about the Apple Watch on the Internet are true or false, so everything needs to be carefully considered now.
