Pixel 6/6 Pro: New update brings a new stumbling block – Android 12L beta cannot be used

Things have improved for users of the Pixel 6 smartphones in the last few weeks because Google has got many construction sites under control and has been diligently distributing updates. But the most recent update that was rolled out to all users a few days ago also has a side effect that was probably not considered: After the update, the Android 12L beta can no longer be installed.

The Pixel 6 smartphones surprisingly received another security update a few days ago, which only fixed very small bugs and left out the major construction sites. That’s annoying, but not particularly dramatic. But there is another annoyance that was not even considered in the first few days and that more and more users are only now noticing: After the update, the Android 12L beta can no longer be installed.

If you’re enrolling a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro that is on the latest February build SQ1D.220205.004, you will not receive an update to 12L Beta 3, but instead will receive the next upcoming beta build release in March as long as you keep your device enrolled.

This is simply because Android’s update channels don’t install older versions, just continue incrementally. And because the latest update is newer than the Android12L beta, it can no longer be obtained. But Google also wants to work on that and, somewhat surprisingly, announced another Android 12L version in beta for the beginning of March. Whether this is a real fourth beta or already the release candidate has not been revealed.

The final version of Android 12L is expected in early to mid-March. Only a few weeks later, the Android 13 beta channel will be played.
