It might be possible next March. Google is not only planning new security updates for its own Pixel phones but possibly also the update to the newer Android 12.1. Previously also known as Android 12L. It primarily brings innovations and adjustments for larger devices, but there are also a few tweaks for pixel smartphones.
However, Android 12.1 brings a few innovations that you would immediately see or notice on a phone. I’ve been using the Android 12L Beta 3 on my Google Pixel 6 Pro for a few days now and a lot is no different. There are some very small visual changes, revamped animations, and adjusted haptic feedback.
Android 12.1 will probably roll out for the Pixel series in March
Android 12.1 is almost ready. Google is collecting feedback again, this time for the third beta. The release of Android 12.1 is planned for the second week of March. March 7th would be the date for the new security update. At least that’s what it looks like at the moment. Basically, March was the goal for the release and Google can probably actually fulfill that.
The newer Android 13 is already in developer preview. But it won’t come back until summer. We remain skeptical as to whether Android 12.1 was really needed. In any case, the tablet adjustments probably didn’t make it into the regular Android 12 in time, which was released in autumn 2021. A mess nobody needed.
