Google Assistant is always quick with answers when it comes to silly jokes, but if you give orders to do things with, for example, your smart home, it often slows down over time. How come? Probably because too many devices are linked to Google Assistant. So time to clean up.
Google Assistant
Google Assistant works through your phone’s hardware and through your Internet connection, so usually when you’re having trouble with the voice assistant, it’s because there’s something wrong with it. However, there is still something that sometimes goes wrong, which is that too many devices are linked to your Google Assistant. The solution is therefore to remove those devices, unless you use them all frequently, of course.

Remove Linked Devices
The Google app now makes it easier to remove those devices. The setting allows you to sort linked devices by when you last used them, making it easier to select them for removal. If you have removed a device that you do want to use with the Google Assistant, you can switch it back on via that device.
Here’s how to remove a device:
- Make sure you have the most recent version of the Google app
- Tap your profile picture at the top right
- Tap Settings > Google Assistant
- Tap Devices > Remove Unused Devices
- Select the devices you no longer use and delete them
More than you think
You will probably be surprised which devices are included: sometimes with vague titles that make you wonder what it is exactly. Fortunately, Google indicates the status, so if you haven’t used anything for more than 3 months, you can assume that it can be removed.
