In 2017, Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch game console, followed by the battery-enhanced version, the Lite version and the OLED version. Although Nintendo Switch does not have the top performance and game screen of PS and Xbox consoles, it is still recognized by many players around the world for its convenience and Nintendo’s first-party masterpiece.
According to media TweakTown, since the release of the Switch, the cumulative sales revenue of the game business unit is about 59.8 billion US dollars. What’s more interesting is that Nintendo’s hardware revenue is more than the software business, because every Switch is profitable.
Specifically, hardware revenue was US$33.16 billion, accounting for 55% of total revenue, and software revenue such as games was US$26.63 billion, accounting for 45% of total revenue.
It is worth mentioning that at a previous Nintendo internal meeting, President Furukawa Shuntaro stated that the Switch is currently at the midpoint of its life cycle. That said, the Switch is only halfway through its mission cycle. It seems that some students who want to buy Switch Pro (tentative name) have waited.
According to estimates by VGChartz, the total sales of the Nintendo Switch reached 103 million units, surpassing Sony PlayStation (PS1) to become the fifth best-selling console in history. If the Switch maintains this growth rate, its total sales are expected to surpass the PlayStation 4 this year.
