The Tesla Model 3 is the world’s best-selling electric car and slowly there are more and more manufacturers who are relying on an alternative and not just on SUVs.
BYD is an automaker from China and local media are reporting on a new electric sedan that will be roughly the same size as the Tesla Model 3. And when it comes to the price, you probably want to position yourself just below Tesla’s bestseller.
The model called “Seal” could come in three versions: First as a single-motor version with either 150 or 180 kW and then as a dual-motor version with 200 + 160 kW (475 hp). However, we do not yet have any information on the battery size.
The special feature of the BYD Seal is the 800-volt technology of the platform, which we already know from Porsche or Hyundai. It would therefore be quite conceivable that we would get very fast charging times with peaks of over 200 kW.
Sounds interesting and if the German brands don’t manage to finally deliver a good and inexpensive alternative for the Tesla Model 3, then I’m hoping for BYD now. The announcement of the electric car could take place as part of Auto China aka Beijing Motor Show, which takes place in April.
By the way, feel free to stop by Xchuxing. Although the post is in Chinese, there are several pictures of a spy that give a good impression. PS: The pictures here in the post-show a concept vehicle that was presented by BYD in 2021 and uses the new electric platform (e-platform 3.0). The sedan should also use this, so I simply integrated it.
