In the beta of WhatsApp, you can now see a handy preview when you send images or videos as a document. And that’s handy because this way you avoid the automatic compression that reduces the quality of your image or video.
WhatsApp file previews
If you want to send images and videos with WhatsApp, you can do so from the Gallery or with the camera icon. Those are the obvious ways, but not the best if you also want to maintain the quality. When you share them as a document, on the other hand, the original quality is preserved. In the chat app, press the attachment icon with the paperclip and then choose Document.
This method has always had one major drawback and that is that the recipients of your photo or video did not see a nice preview. They were only shown the name of the file and the correct file format.
That will now change with beta version 2.22.5.11 because you now see a preview of a photo or video that you share as a document, which brings news to WABetaInfo. Admittedly, the preview is quite blurry, but with that, the recipient already knows what kind of image awaits him when opening.
WhatsApp has also previously introduced a function that allows you to control the quality of the images you send. This concerns images that you share via the normal shipping method. However, even with ‘Best Quality’ images there is still a lot of compressions, so the advantage of this option is limited.
Availability
The new document preview is now available to beta users, but it is unknown when it will be rolled out for the stable version.
