The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a new Armor Aluminum metal frame, which Samsung officially claims is the company’s most durable aluminum version to date. And the front and back sides of the fuselage are equipped with Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass Victus Plus glass, which further enhances the durability of the product.
But with such a powerful configuration, you may still need to buy a phone case and screen protector for it, because it may not be able to handle drops well.
All three Galaxy S22 phones feature the same glass sandwich design, even the cheapest model. That means they both get the same Victus Plus and Armor Aluminum materials. But unlike the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has curved edges, rectangular corners, flat top and bottom sides, and the rear camera protrudes independently on the back.
All three phones have excellent durability, as we’ve seen recently. They handle scratches and liquid soaks with no problem. And they don’t bend. But all of this doesn’t guarantee that the phone will survive all accidental drops. YouTube channel PBKreviews dropped the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The phones were dropped onto concrete from various heights in these tests. The Galaxy S22 Ultra survived a waist-height drop, but there was no other metal around the protruding camera to absorb the impact, so the glass on both cameras shattered on the first impact.
Also dropped to the ground with the screen facing down at waist height, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a curved edge. When the curved Victus Plus glass hits the concrete road, the screen shatters.
Given that the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus have flat screens, it will be interesting to see how they handle the same type of drop. It’s important to note here that the phone is still functional. The display cracked, as did several cameras. The fingerprint sensor and screen are normal.
