Tesla Inc. has been sued for a suspension failure in a fatal accident. Last year, a Tesla accident in Florida killed the owner and a passenger and sparked a federal investigation.
The owner’s family said in a lawsuit filed last week in Florida state court that the 2021 Model 3 vehicle involved in the accident used a “defective and unreasonably dangerous suspension system that could cause the vehicle to fail in an ordinary and predictable manner.” Loss of control in driving conditions”.
Four days before the accident last September, owner Nicholas G. Garcia brought a Model 3 to a Tesla store because of the car’s “controllability/steering, Suspension, battery and electronic systems, and ability to open doors” have issues.
Plaintiffs allege a Tesla service manager was “careless” when inspecting affected models. The National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report released in November that the Model 3 was speeding before hitting two trees and bursting into flames.
The plaintiffs are demanding more than $30,000 each from Tesla and the service manager. Tesla has yet to comment.
