Regulatory documents show that just days after the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) called on Elon Musk to donate $ 6 billion to help alleviate the problem of global hunger, Musk did not donate more than 5 million shares. However, WFP executive director David Beasley said they had not received any donations.
On Halloween last year, Musk pledged on Twitter that he would sell Tesla stock and donate $6 billion to WFP if WFP “can accurately describe on Twitter how $6 billion will solve world hunger.” On Monday, November 15, Beasley responded to Musk with a proposal. Then on Friday, Musk began transferring shares to a charity.
Musk donated about 5.04 million shares worth about $5.7 billion to an unnamed charity between Nov. 19 and Nov. 29 last year, according to Tesla’s Form 5 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Steve Taravella, a WFP spokesman, declined to share any information, saying: WFP’s practice has always been for donors to disclose any potential donations themselves.
However, Beasley issued his own statement on Tuesday, saying the group had not received any funding. It remains to be seen whether WFP receives the money, but I’m glad to hear Elon is involved. It’s an amazing, great first step, Beasley said.
