Facebook agreed to pay 90 million US dollars to settle a 10-year-old privacy lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges Facebook is still tracking users’ internet activity after they log out of the social media site.
The proposed preliminary settlement was submitted to the U.S. District Court in San Jose, Calif., late Monday, and requires a judge’s approval. The settlement also requires Facebook to delete data it improperly collected.
Previously, users accused Facebook of violating U.S. federal and state privacy and wiretapping laws by using a plug-in to store cookies. Cookies track users when they visit external websites that contain a Facebook “Like” button.
