The next-generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 was launched last night. This work supports free upgrades of the next-generation version, but some players said that the physical version in their hands cannot be upgraded, and this situation mainly occurs in Europe.
According to media reports, the main reason is that the game discs they bought at launch had a different region code than their actual location.
The CDPR support page states: “For physical players to upgrade to the next-gen edition, the CUSA (PlayStation code) on your disc must match your PlayStation account region.”
This has resulted in many brick-and-mortar players not being able to find upgrade options in the PlayStation or Xbox stores. Affected players, upgrade options will be locked or require players to pay to upgrade.
One player said: “Is there anyone who hasn’t found a free ps5 next-generation version? I’m in Europe, and I’ve tried both discs.”
Another player said: “Yes, I can’t find a free PS5 version either. I’m in Denmark.”
A cursory glance at the “Cyberpunk 2077” section on reddit shows that many users are complaining about this, and a search of Twitter will reveal similar problems.
Given that CDPR has listed the issue on its support page, the developers are aware of this situation. However, as of press time, CDPR has not provided a solution to the problem.
