Apple updated its retro product list on Monday to include the iPhone 6 Plus, as it’s been more than five years since Apple stopped distribution and sales of the device , MacRumors reported.
The iPhone 6 Plus was first released alongside the iPhone 6 in September 2014, and it was discontinued in September 2016 after the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The iPhone 6 isn’t currently on the “retro products” list because it’s been on sale longer. Apple reintroduced the iPhone 6 in 2017, and as a mid-range iPhone, it was available for purchase until September 2018, so it will be another two years or so before it can be designated as a retro product for that reason.
Notably, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were the first devices to offer Apple Pay support and the first year that Apple offered a multi-size option for iPhones. Since the release of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has stuck to a multi-size release strategy.
The devices on the retro product list are devices that Apple stopped selling five and seven years ago. Apple offers service and parts for retro devices for up to seven years, or as required by law, but repairs are subject to parts availability. Back in 2019, with the introduction of iOS 13, Apple stopped supporting software updates for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
