The big buzzword for 2022 is Metaverse, which was already established in 2021 and which will be such an important topic in the coming years that Facebook has even renamed itself, Meta. But what about Nintendo?
It has been noticed that the Metaverse (that’s what the digital world is called, in which people meet with VR glasses and 3D avatars, for example) is important for more and more companies and it is now “of interest” for Nintendo too.
The Metaverse has caught the attention of many companies around the world, and it has great potential. When the concept of the Metaverse is presented in the media, games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons are sometimes cited as an example. In this sense, the metaverse is of interest to us.
According to Nintendo, Animal Crossing is often cited as an example, although I didn’t notice it that often. But the game would certainly have the potential to be built up as a metaverse in which Nintendo gamers can then meet.
As is so often the case, Nintendo wants to take its own approach to a trend and not simply follow others. However, it is not yet the right time for an announcement. It sounds like you (like many others) don’t know exactly what you’re doing with it now, but Nintendo is actively working on the Metaverse.
But at this point, it’s not easy to define exactly what kind of surprises and what kind of pleasure the Metaverse can offer our consumers. As a company, company that offers entertainment, our main focus is to bring new surprises to our customers and consumers. We might consider something if we can figure out a way to bring the Metaverse a “Nintendo approach” to the Metaverse that many people can easily understand, but we don’t think that’s the case at this point.
