Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen said in a podcast interview this week that he has no expectations for Apple’s new design. Apple is said to be developing a self-driving electric car, the Apple Car.
Holzhausen expressed dissatisfaction with Apple’s apparent lack of design innovation. In an interview on the Spike Car Radio podcast, he said that in terms of Apple’s new design, “there’s nothing to look forward to.”
When asked about other companies’ products and designs that inspired him, Holzhausen immediately chose Apple. He started by talking about the Apple Watch, explaining that he wears the Apple Watch because of its fitness features, but other than that, he hasn’t “really found what it means to wear it.”
He added that he now thinks Apple’s design is just a “slight improvement on the same thing.” In terms of inspiration, Apple “has nothing to look forward to.”
Holzhausen’s remarks are just the latest upgrade in which Tesla and its executives have publicly criticized or ridiculed Apple. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously criticized Apple for building a “walled garden” ecosystem around the App Store.
