Google tests new Android versions extensively in advance and has been doing so publicly for some time. Pixel 6 phone owners are now included too.
Google has been maintaining the “Android Beta Program” for some time, making access to new Android test versions extremely easy. After the developer preview is over, there is always a rather lengthy beta program for new Android versions.
Participation in this has been possible for a long time but has only been particularly uncomplicated for a few years. Now the Pixel 6 phones are allowed too.
This is interesting because suddenly everything is happening in quick succession for the two new smartphones. You finally get new security updates at the same time as the older models, there is now general approval for the beta program and at the same time for the first time a beta of Android 12L for both models.
This makes it clear that the later Android 13 beta should also be easily available for the Pixel 6 devices.
Android: Beta program allows very easy installation of new test versions
The beta program allows you to register your devices for the Android beta. This in turn means that you can install the latest beta directly on the devices like a normal system update. Wirelessly and with just a few taps. Which of course doesn’t mean that such a beta has to function smoothly. Only the installation has been very easy for some time now.
If you want to try a current beta with your Pixel cell phone, all you have to do is go to this page and “register” the respective device there. Not much later, your device will appear that a beta version is available for download. But remember that it is not so easy to get the new software off the device if it still contains too many errors.
