Yesterday evening, Google released the third and last Android 12L beta, which will be followed very soon by the rollout of the final version. Even shortly before the goal, there are still a number of changes to the operating system, which can also be tried out by Pixel 6 users for the first time. We show you the most important innovations and improvements of Android 12L.
Android 12L is aimed at devices with large displays, with foldable, tablets and Chromebooks being particularly highlighted. However, it is currently not available for tablets (with the exception of a Lenovo model), Chromebooks or foldable, but only for Pixel smartphones. For this reason, it may not be possible to fully understand all the innovations, but in the third and last round, the changes are very limited anyway and are mainly of a cosmetic nature.
No more split top button
The split top button in picture-in-picture mode, which was only introduced with the last beta, has been removed again. With this, the floating video could be moved to the upper part of a split display.
Centered indication of no notifications
If there are no new notifications, information about them is now centered vertically instead of at the top.
Smartphone radius in split screen
A nice effect: The radius of the edges of the split screen now corresponds to that of the smartphone display. It looks chic and even makes the division look a little more natural.
New icon for the split screen
The icon for starting the split screen in the task overview has been changed. The top field of the icon is now filled in, showing that the selected app is placed at the top.
Revised screensaver design
The screensaver settings have been revised and no longer contain an oversized button for enabling or disabling. The screen saver can now be started directly for testing.
Weather in the ‘at a glance’ widget
The weather in combination with the ‘at a glance’ widget becomes a never-ending story and continues with positive development on Android 12L as well. Due to the latest beta, the weather can be found here again. Let’s hope that the final version doesn’t change again.

These are no longer really big improvements, because after all the operating system is now at the last stage before release and will not change much anymore. It is quite possible that a release candidate will follow before the final release, but both should be quite close together in March. It is quite possible that further innovations will be shown with the start of suitable devices or rolled out later.
