After Indonesian wrestling and Latin American Star+, sports content live broadcasts, the Disney+ platform finally tried a live broadcast in North America this week. With the Hulu and ESPN services included with the Disney Bundle package, North American Disney+ subscribers have a rare live experience.
In addition, as one of the official cooperation platforms nominated by the 2022 Oscars, Disney+ is expected to be involved in more program types in the follow-up.
Given that multiple Disney movies that fans are watching are shortlisted, we’re not surprised that Disney+ is testing live streaming for Oscar nominations.
- Among them, “Encanto”, “Luca” and “Raya and the Last Dragon” were nominated for Best Animated Feature, and the latter was also nominated for Best Original Song.
- Cruella received two nominations for Costume Design/Makeup and Hair Design, while “Shang-Chi” and “Spider-Man: Homeless” were nominated for Best Visual Effects.
Going forward, we also don’t rule out the possibility that Disney+ could be used to live stream big events like D23 (like the Oscars on March 27), as well as other events where Disney content is released and discussed.
Also last month, discerning people discovered a special web address (URL) on the Disney+ sitemap, suggesting the platform is gearing up to support live sports.
