With Android 12, Google introduced a new design language called Material You to the Pixel smartphones. This will now come for other Android manufacturers (probably from Android 12L). And a new function of it should even become mandatory.
Android 12: New manufacturer rules from March
According to Android Police, dynamic themes will be mandatory for all partners from March 14th. If you want to use Android 12 with Google services, you have to implement this function. Internally, this is called “Monet” at Google.
What does that mean? Colors in the system and things like app icons are adjusted based on your wallpaper. According to Google, this should create a “personal look” for Android. So far, the feature is only available for Pixel smartphones.
According to the Android Police, the first manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Motorola have already started to implement “Monet”, but others such as Samsung have developed their own solution. And so that everyone doesn’t cook their own soup in the end, Google will prescribe how this should look from next month.
PS: Since the step is supposed to come with Android 12L, maybe we will see the update on March 14th as well. However, new hardware from Google will not be available until May.
