Apple has acquired a startup called AI Music, which can use artificial intelligence to make customized music. This technology may be used by Apple in various audio services.
AI Music is a London-based company founded in 2016. Apple completed its acquisition of the company in recent weeks. Before the deal, AI Music had about 24 employees.
The AI Music website no longer exists. A copy of the website shows that the company has developed technology to create soundtracks using royalty-free music and artificial intelligence, the idea is to create dynamic soundtracks that can change based on user interactions.
For example, the song in a video game can change based on the user’s mood, or the music during a workout can be adjusted based on the intensity of the user’s workout.
Although the deal was relatively small, it was one of the few acquisitions Apple has made in the past year. Apple’s most recent acquisition also bought a music company: Primephonic, a startup that operates a classical music streaming service. Apple plans to turn it into an app tied to Apple Music this year.
