According to the latest reports, Google’s Stadia service has been downgraded, and the focus of its core business has shifted to third-party technology sales.
The news comes from a new report from media Business Insider, which says that Google has now “de-prioritized” Stadia internally, and is less and less interested in launching more third-party masterpieces to increase Stadia’s game library.
It is said that less than 20% of the Stadia team is now focused on the game business, and the rest of the team’s focus is shifted to third-party technology sales.
As early as last year, when it was revealed that Google was closing its game studio, there was news that Stadia would make a strategic change. After all, Google announced that it would start selling its technology to third parties.
Such an approach is now a major priority for Google’s leadership to strategically realign the Stadia unit, Business Insider said, with the vast majority of the team now focused on securing more deals for its technology, with the goal of gaming companies inside and outside, while the technology in the deal has a new name: Google Stream.
In a statement to Business Insider, Google said it “remains focused on bringing great games to Stadia in 2022,” noting that it will add 100 more games to Stadia this year, adding to Stadia’s existing library of more than 200 games.
But a source told Business Insider: “There’s a lot of people inside Google who want to keep Stadia going, so they’ve worked really hard to make sure it doesn’t get cancelled, but they’re not the ones writing the check (upper level) after all.
