In addition to the booked additional storage space, the Google One subscription package offers all paying users a number of other advantages that increase according to quota and subscription price. From a certain contingent, there is access to a VPN that is offered without limits and additional costs. These days, all users can look forward to new features that make use even more convenient.
Those who subscribe to Google One get additional storage space for Google Photos, Drive and Gmail. You can also get benefits in the Play Store, unlock additional features, get discounts in the Google Store and much more with the packages. From a booked quota of 2 terabytes of storage space, which is offered for 9.99 euros per month or 99.99 euros per year, you get access to the Google VPN.
The VPN is currently only offered as part of Google One and cannot yet be booked separately. That could change in the future, but first, you probably want to expand its reach. The free VPN has been available on the iPhone for a few days and access via the desktop has been announced for the medium term. But until then, the range of functions will be improved and new functions will be offered to both Android and iOS users.
These consist essentially in the fact that the VPN can be activated and deactivated dynamically. Actually, you could bring all this under one roof, but in marketing and with a product that is poor in features like the Google One VPN, it probably just looks better in the form. New additions are “Safe Disconnect”, “App Bypass” and “Snooze”.
Safe Disconnect
With Safe Disconnect you ensure that the smartphone is only on the Internet when the VPN is activated. If the feature is activated, you cannot accidentally deactivate the VPN. If there are problems with the VPN at Google, you will still not surf the web unprotected.
App Bypass
It’s a familiar situation: the VPN does its practical job, but it causes problems with a single app. This is mostly due to geo-location, but sometimes also due to VPN detection. Whatever the reason, you can use App Bypass to create a list of apps that can bypass the VPN and access the internet directly. So a simple app filter. Conversely, it is not possible to whitelist a few apps that should use the VPN.
Snooze
If you don’t use the bypass function and want to temporarily disable the VPN instead, you can now do so using the snooze function. This deactivates the VPN and starts a timer, after which it is automatically activated again. On the one hand, this is a convenient function and, on the other hand, it is due to the fact that most users probably forget to reactivate the VPN in good time.
All three new features should already be available to all users. And any iOS user with a substantial Google One subscription should already be able to use the VPN on their iPhone or iPad.
