About a year ago, Spotify announced a new HiFi option that should launch in 2021. But the year went by and in December it became clear that this would not happen anymore. But when will we finally see Spotify HiFi?
Spotify in dialogue with partners
Spotify doesn’t know that either. Investors asked about the business figures after all the function was announced for 2021, but the answer is very vague. And unfortunately, Spotify does not give any reasons here.
Many of the features we’re talking about, mostly related to music, will eventually be licensed. So I can’t announce anything specific on that, other than that we’re in constant dialogue with our partners to bring this to market.
So Spotify is in dialogue with partners. That can mean anything. The move by Apple and Amazon, which has been offering better quality at no extra cost since 2021, is believed to have caused unrest. Spotify sure wanted more money.
And at the end of 2021 Tidal followed suit, so Spotify can no longer offer it for an extra charge. I suspect that since the announcement they have changed their plan and are working on a new business model.
