In the past few weeks, rumors have continued that Sony intends to subdivide the subscription service, integrate and improve PS Plus and PS Now, so as to strengthen the competition with Xbox Game Pass. Players obviously have a lot of opinions on this, but how does Xbox helm Phil Spencer see the competition coming? He thinks it’s the right answer for PlayStation.
He Stated:
I don’t mean to say we’ve figured it out, but I think the right answer is to allow your customers to play the games they want where they want to play, let them choose how to build their library of games, and be transparent to them, Let them know about our plans on PC plans and cross-generation plans and other things. So when I hear people doing things like Game Pass or going to PC, it makes sense to me because I think that’s the right answer.
I don’t really see it as validation. In fact, when I talk to our team, I speak of it as an inevitability. So for us, we should continue to innovate, we should continue to compete because the things we’re doing may be our advantage in the market today, but they’re just based on us being one step ahead, not saying we’ve created something that others can’t create things.
It gives us the energy to understand what we should do next while continuing to build on what we have done in the past. Because I think the right answer is to ship great games, ship on PC, ship on console, ship on the cloud, deliver those games on day one of your subscription. I hope this is also what our competitors will do.
Sony hasn’t officially announced their new subscription service yet, but with the prepaid PS Now card being pulled, expect it to be revealed soon.
