Android Automotive OS is to receive some improvements in a new generation. At this point, it is unclear whether there can also be an update for delivered vehicles. There are already graphics for a future version of Android Automotive OS, which will soon make better use of the screen like Android Auto. It is about dividing the screen area in order to be able to use it better for several shortcuts. Which should be important in the car primarily for maps, music and the air conditioning.
A major conversion for Android Automotive OS is pending
The first screenshot of the new interface shows that Google shares the map view. At the bottom of the screen, we get access to the media player and can view the car’s range data. This part can be shown and hidden with a swipe gesture – like with Tesla. Another bar for buttons takes you to the assistant, phone, camera, radio and a quick setting for the wipers.
We remember: Google is also developing a two-part screen interface for Android Auto, which we use on compatible cars via smartphone, for more functions at first glance.
Back to the new Android Automotive OS:
Even in the main menu at the bottom of the screen, not everything remains the same. The button for the start menu migrates to the software. This probably means that you no longer want to offer a physical button in future vehicles. Access for the app overview remains to the right of the new button.
Google and automakers are reducing physical buttons
And last but not least, the main menu is a little different on the right panel too. The settings button moves a little to the center of the screen, with a new button for the hazard warning lights on the far right . It is not known whether a physical button for the hazard warning lights will be eliminated.
A redesign of the speedometer unit is probably also being developed. Volvo and Qualcomm showed this footage a few days ago when they made their joint announcement for future vehicles.
It looks like the interface for Android Automotive OS on the Polestar 3 is totally new.
This looks incredible. You get a dominant Google Maps view while the bottom half shows easy media and HVAC controls, range info, and shortcuts to other stuff. pic.twitter.com/5ig9uf6CB7
