The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (hereinafter referred to as NHTSA) said on Friday local time that it is discussing with Tesla about heating problems in some vehicles to assess “potential safety concerns.”
Drive Tesla Canada reported that many Tesla owners have complained that heat pumps may not work properly in extremely cold environments. Some 2020-2021 Model 3 and Model Y heating systems still have problems, even after Tesla replaced the faulty sensor earlier last year to fix the problem.
NHTSA said it was “aware of the issue, continues to gather information, and is discussing the issue with Tesla to assess potential safety concerns.” Tesla declined to comment. Canada’s auto safety regulator said Thursday that it has launched an investigation into the heating and cooling systems of Model 3 and Model Y vehicles after receiving 16 consumer complaints.
Transport Canada said it was concerned that non-functioning heating and air-conditioning systems “could interfere with the windshield defogging/defrosting function and, in turn, the driver’s line of sight.” (Author/Frost Leaf)
