Recently, Xbox head Phil Spencer told the New York Times that the Xbox Series X|S is the fastest-selling console Microsoft has ever launched, even surpassing the Xbox 360. However, Microsoft did not disclose specific data, and according to analyst Daniel Ahmad, Microsoft’s new console Xbox Series X|S has shipped more than 12 million units so far.
Ah AMD also said that Microsoft’s dual-SKU strategy has worked amid supply chain shortages and that the increase in Xbox Series S production has allowed more Xbox Series consoles to hit the shelves. If Microsoft only launched the Xbox Series X, the situation might not be too optimistic.
In response, a Twitter user posted a reply, saying that he had predicted that the sales of the Xbox Series X|S would exceed 11 million four days ago:
- PS5: 16,675,800 units
- Xbox Series X|S: 11 million 918 units

Spencer also said in the interview that the reason why the Xbox Series X|S and Sony PS5 are so difficult to buy is not because of too little supply, but because of too much demand.
When you’re in the market right now for an Xbox or a new PlayStation, they’re really hard to find. It’s not because there’s less supply than ever. In fact, the supply is as big as ever, only But demand for all of us is outstripping supply.
Spencer also pointed out that they’ve sold more Xbox Series X|S than any previous Xbox console since launch, so it’s their job to make sure the supply meets player demand.
