According to data jointly collected by Famitsu and GamesIndustry.biz (2020.12.28-2021.12.19), the sales of Nintendo Switch in Japan in 2021 reached 5.3 million units, including standard and Lite and OLED versions. Switch’s sales in Japan are 5 times that of other consoles combined, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo’s own 3DS, with a combined sales of 1.1 million units.
PS5 is the second-highest-selling console in Japan, with 942798 units, which is 10 times the sales volume of XSX|S (95,598 units) in Japan last year. Even for PS4, sales exceeded XSX|S with 103,786 units. As for 3DS, it is 28,224 units.
The performance of Switch in Japan last year was the same as the previous year (2020). From December 30, 2019, to December 6, 2020, Switch sold 5.1 million units each day. Although a large part of last year’s sales was attributed to Animal Crossing Friends, other games also contributed, including Monster Hunter: Rise, Pokémon: Crystal Diamond/Bright Pearl and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
