Verizon announced today that it plans to expand its 5G ultra-wideband technology to more than 100 million people in 1,700 cities in the United States. In addition, it provides 5G speeds 10 times faster than 4G LTE speeds – up to 1 gigabyte per second.
According to Verizon, nearly one-third of Americans will live in areas with faster 5G speeds. Although the technology will enter 1,700 cities, it is worth noting that it will be restricted to specific areas.
Although Apple’s 5G iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models can take advantage of Verizon’s 5G ultra-wideband technology, they need to participate in a suitable Verizon package. Not all Verizon’s package products include 5G ultra-broadband speeds.
Before the 5G ultra-wideband expansion, Verizon is updating its unlimited phone package. From January 5th, 5G Get More, 5G Play More and 5G Do More plans will provide up to 10 times the speed, and its highest level package, 5G Get More, now has unlimited high-quality data. Its previous upper limit was 50GB per month. Lower-level plans will not include the fastest 5G connection speed.
When Verizon announced the expansion of 5G, both AT&T and Verizon agreed to postpone the introduction of the C-band spectrum, which would allow faster speeds to be promoted. The FAA requires mobile phone operators to postpone until January 19, having previously asked them to postpone deployment to January 5.
The introduction of the new agreement is to ensure that there is very little interference to aviation operations when deploying the C-band spectrum because this will give the FAA and FCC more time to prepare. AT&T and Verizon initially opposed the further postponement of C-band deployment because the deployment had been delayed for one month, but they agreed to postpone it for another two weeks. AT&T and Verizon have received assurances that they will be allowed to deploy their new 5G wireless networks later this month.
