The survey agency Apptopia recently announced the top 10 APP downloads in the United States in 2021. Warner Media’s HBO Max ranked tenth with 45 million downloads and is the only streaming media app in the ranking.
It seems that Warner’s strategy of simultaneously launching theatrical blockbusters this year on streaming media has at least played a role in increasing the number of mobile APP downloads.
The survey ended on December 20, 2021. According to data released by WarnerMedia’s parent company AT&T in October, as of September 30, HBO Max had accumulated 45.2 million subscribers.
However, when users use streaming media services, they mostly use smart TVs and smart TV boxes. Mobile APP downloads only confirm the popularity of HBO Max. The current US streaming media leader is still Netflix, with 214 million subscribers worldwide. As of November, Disney+ has 118 million global subscribers. HBO Max has too little market expansions outside the United States, and the gap between these two is still not small.
