In September of this year, Apple launched an iOS 15 software update with impressive new functional components and additional improvements. However, compared with iOS 14, the update adoption speed of iOS 15 has slowed down. The statistics shared by the analysis company Mixpanel shows that currently iOS 15 only runs on 65% of the supported iPhone smartphones. In other words, since its debut in September, only 60% of iPhone users have adopted iOS 15.
Softpedia pointed out that although the adoption rate of Apple’s system updates is not low, compared with the early performance of iOS 14, iOS 15 is indeed inferior. Although iOS 14/15 support the same lineup of iPhone models, more than 80% of the devices were running iOS 14 in the same period last year. In terms of functions, iOS 14 released last year mainly brought home screen widgets and support for new features such as picture-in-picture.
As for the next major version of iOS 15, it is expected that Apple will release a preview at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2016) next summer, and officially launch iOS 16 in September 2022. At that time, the new system may give up support for the iPhone 6s / 6s Plus, which was launched in 2015 and still has a very high number of iPhone 6s / 6s Plus models. Finally, there are rumors that Apple will launch the new iPhone SE 3 in the spring of 2022 to fill the gap in the entry-level iPhone smartphone market.
