Live concert organizers and performers complained that the icon marking the current microphone in use in the Apple macOS Monterey system would interfere with live performance activities. In order to remind users that an application uses a microphone or camera, an orange or green dot in the menu bar will indicate that it has been enabled. Although this method is out of safety considerations, it causes interference for visual artists.
When the microphone is used in any situation, an orange dot will appear in the control center of the menu bar on each connected monitor. This happens even when the menu bar on the external display is disabled, but the dot appears floating in the space in the upper right corner.
Many artists in the music industry output visual effects to external displays or projectors when performing live performances. An orange dot on a 24-inch monitor may not seem like a problem, but once it shows up on a 50-foot monitor in front of a crowd, it quickly becomes a distracting factor.
Members of the music industry are not satisfied with this implementation. They are looking to Apple for a user-oriented switching method. At least, the artists are asking Apple to remove the orange dots from the external display. Isadora, the developer of a popular audiovisual graphical client, called this feature completely unacceptable.
He asked everyone to submit a report on the macOS feedback page or send a Twitter response to the Apple support account. S4y on Github has shared a temporary fix. This app will delete the orange dots. It has not been officially approved by Apple and may be disabled at any time in future macOS updates.
