Earlier, Apple had added a dual system version update function to iOS 14.5, allowing users to choose between iOS 14.8.1 and the latest iOS 15.2 in order to take care of old users. However, according to the latest news from the Apple Developer Forum, Apple has closed the dual version update function of iOS 14.5. Currently, only the update of iOS 15.2 can be received, and iOS 14.8.1 is no longer displayed.
Apple did not make any explanation for this, but speculation that this has a certain relationship with the iOS 15 upgrade rate. Third-party data analysis company Mixpanel recently stated that about 58% of iOS devices are running iOS 15, while about 36% of devices running iOS 14.
The company also pointed out that the upgrade speed of iOS 15 is much slower than that of iOS 14 over the same period. Judging from user feedback, due to issues such as system lag caused by cross-version upgrades, many users do not want to upgrade to the latest iOS 15 but hope that Apple will continue to maintain iOS 14, but it is no longer possible.
