The Google Pixel 6 smartphone brought the final Material You design to Android 12 and a revamped Google Translate app to take advantage of the Tensor chip.
The updated Google Translate app was first launched in late October for Tensor-powered devices, while it is now reaching more smartphones in the Google Pixel family.
Google Translate with Material You is coming to older Pixels
The Google Translate redesign is available on the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4 XL with versions 6.26 and 6.27 of the app, suggesting this is likely a server-side change.
As on the Google Pixel 6, this new design respects Android 12’s background-based Dynamic Color feature. Pixel 4 XL doesn’t seem to lack functionality in the app compared to Pixel 6, but translations will likely be slower as it doesn’t have the chip. ‘artificial intelligence.
At the moment the update does not seem to be available on other Android smartphones with the same version of the app, however, it costs nothing to try to update Google Translate via the Play Store. Recently, the Mountain View giant has also tweaked the Google Calendar app by adding the avatar and the account selector.
