Eduardo Vela of the Google bug bounty team just announced in a security blog in early November that from now until at least the end of January 2022, they will provide higher remuneration for security personnel who find Linux kernel vulnerabilities. If you happen to submit a bug in the next three months and get a confirmation, the tech giant will pay $31,337 for the privilege escalation bug. If it is a previously unpatched vulnerability or a new exploit technology, you can also get a reward of $50,337.
Obviously, Google hopes to use higher bonuses to encourage more security researchers to explore the kernel field and actively report their findings. Conversely, this will also help improve Google’s business security in Android, Compute Engine, and internal Linux systems/server farms.
