The update situation for OnePlus devices has not improved in the past couple of years, as users have reported a number of bugs in the OxygenOS operating system. Unfortunately, it seems that a new bug has been added today, as some owners of the OnePlus 8 report that Google Pay and other apps have become disabled after a system update.
Some OnePlus 8 users report problems with Google Pay and other banking apps
Some OnePlus 8 users have reported on the OnePlus and Reddit forums that Google Pay has been disabled after the OxygenOS 11.0.9.9.IN21BA update. Some owners of this OnePlus smartphone also reported that their banking apps and even the McDonald’s app were involved in this bug after the update.
Further insights revealed that these devices do not pass Google’s SafetyNet verification after the update, as they seem to be unable to find a matching CTS profile, as you can guess from the screenshot below shared by an unfortunate user.

SafetyNet is a Google service that checks if a device is running authentic and certified software, otherwise, financial apps and premium streaming services are often disabled, as in this case. An Android device often fails SafetyNet checks if rooted, but a couple of OnePlus 8 users have pointed out that they haven’t done this on their smartphones.
At the moment it is not clear how widespread this problem is, but all the complaints seem to come from the owners of the OnePlus 8 residing in Europe.
