Thanks to the success of the iPhone 12 series, Apple’s market share in smartphone chip suppliers has increased compared to the same period last year. According to the latest statistical report released by Counterpoint Research, a market research organization, Apple has surpassed Samsung, but there is still a lot of gap between MediaTek and Qualcomm.
The report shows that in 2021 second quarter, Apple in the smartphone has a 15% market share chipset category. Compared with the 13% share of the same period last year, Apple’s market share actually increased slightly. In the same period, Samsung’s market share was only 7%.
This is driven by the company’s A14 bionic technology, but Apple continues to lag behind companies such as Qualcomm and MediaTek. According to statistics in the second quarter of 2021, Qualcomm has more than twice the market share of Apple, which is not surprising, because almost all major Android flagship mobile phone manufacturers rely on the San Diego chip company’s Snapdragon series SoC.
It should also be noted that Apple’s smartphone chipset market share fell from 17% to 15% in the previous quarter. Consumers may suspend their purchases because they look forward to the iPhone 13 series, which will use the company’s next-generation A15 Bionic chip. According to a report, Apple has instructed TSMC to mass-produce 100 million A15 bionic chips and require its supply chain to increase the output of iPhone 13 by 20% over the iPhone 12 series.
These figures indicate that Apple expects high demand for the iPhone 13 series, which may give the chipset a higher market share. The company also plans to launch a low-cost 2022 version of the iPhone SE, which may become a favorite of budget-conscious consumers, which will have a positive impact on its overall position. Unfortunately, don’t expect Apple to surpass Qualcomm or MediaTek, because these two manufacturers will continue to provide record numbers to various customers.
