Kanye West’s Donda to 60 million plays on Apple Music

Kanye West is one of the most particular and controversial characters of the contemporary music and art scene. Rapper active in the field of fashion, with atypical excursus, such as when he recommended an airplane model to Trump, and recently also an entrepreneur/promoter for a new music player.

The fact is that he certainly knows how to generate attention around the initiatives he carries out, as evidenced by the recent launch of Donda, a new album released last Sunday and capable, according to Billboard, of obtaining over 60 million plays in 24 hours on Apple Music.

The third best result ever on the Apple platform, behind only Drake’s Views, which reached 63.5 million plays, and J. Cole’s KOD, first in this special ranking with 64.5 million. Another record for Donda: first in the ranking of the most listened to albums in the first 24 hours in 152 countries.

The songs on the album, also at launch last Sunday, occupied 19 of the top 20 positions among the most listened to songs on a daily basis. All this, among other things, breaking several records even during the streaming of his concerts in recent days.

At this point, the question arises, what is Kanye West’s Donda like? Without even wanting to pretend to be an expert, at the moment the artist’s tenth album has, on Metacritic, an average of 53, therefore not very positive, with the highest review, a 75 assigned by Variety, which opens by saying that on a purely musical level, Donda is almost unacceptable; and the lowest, a 0 from the Independent, which closes by explaining that Donda leaves a bitter taste in the mouth that no beat, gospel choir or church organ can take away. Combine them and you will understand that, evidently, reviews say little about the possible success of a product.
