Twitch has announced that, within a week, the price to subscribe to their favorite channels will drop in Italy from € 4.99 to € 3.99, implementing a strategy in our country that, according to the official website of the streaming platform, has performed well abroad.
Until recently, Twitch subscriptions were priced more or less in a line across all markets, with few regional differences. Recently, the experiment of lowering the amount requested in some pilot countries, Mexico and Turkey, has led to satisfactory results, especially for streamers: Compared to the three months prior to the arrival of localized prices for season tickets, viewers and viewers are giving away five times more subscriptions. Now more authors and female authors are reporting subscription revenue, and more viewers and viewers are supporting their favorite channels.
According to Twitch data, in Europe and Asia, the percentage of users who support their favorite creators with a subscription is 50% lower than in the US, while in Latin America this figure would reach as much as 80%. A sign to Twitch that the required amount is too high in certain markets, or that it is not perceived as justified by the offer.
The bet that the Amazon-owned streaming giant is making is therefore that, by lowering the price, the surplus of subscribers compensates and exceeds what the streamer lost to the individual user. However, since this theory is based on a series of experiments carried out only in a small number of countries, the company explained that in the first months it will cover any missing revenues, based on an estimate of what has been done in the last 90 days.
The transition from €4.99 to €3.99 will involve all the countries of the euro area, while in other realities the amount requested will drop to one-third of what it was in the past.
