Volkswagen shared a few days ago some new teasers of the ID.5 and precisely the ID.5 GTX. This is the Coupé version of its ID.4 electric SUV. Although the car has some camouflage in the images, its practically final design can be clearly seen. The differences from the current SUV are basically all behind with a different roofline and with a spoiler above the trunk.
Volkswagen aims to replicate what Audi has already done with the Q4 e-Tron SUV which is also offered in the Coupé version called Sportback. As mentioned at the beginning, the teasers show the GTX variant, the one that will be able to count on a double electric motor and therefore have a four-wheel drive. The German brand has not shared images of the interiors but there will be no particular surprises since they will be those of the ID.4.
It is still unclear how many versions the ID.5 will be offered. The teaser model features a 220 kW (299 hp) powertrain and 460 Nm of torque. If performance does not vary from the ID.4 GTX, a top speed of 180 km/h (electronically limited) and 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds should be expected. The whole is powered by an 82 kWh battery (77 kWh usable) which allows recharging up to 11 kW in AC and up to 125 kW in DC.
All the secrets of the ID.5 and the GTX version will be revealed when Volkswagen debuts the new car. The fact that the manufacturer has shared these teasers is a signal that the presentation may be close to the end. The Munich Motor Show is held in September and it could be the right occasion to unveil the new model which, we recall, is based on the MEB platform. The ID.5 will be built within the Zwickau plant.
Soon, therefore, the Volkswagen ID family is destined to expand further. It seems, however, that the new Volkswagen ID.5 can only be sold within the European market.
