Spotify’s free tier has existed in its current form since 2018 and doesn’t allow you to skip more than six tracks per hour, plus it allows you to choose and listen to specific tracks from only 15 selected playlists, such as editorial ones and algorithmically generated collections. The new Spotify Plus tier is a relatively inexpensive way to reduce some of these limitations.
Spotify Plus is a new $ 0.99 per month subscription tier that combines elements of existing free and premium plans. The plan still includes ads like Spotify’s free tier, but it doesn’t impose any limit on the number of tracks you can skip per hour.
Users are also free to choose which specific songs they want to listen to, rather than limiting themselves primarily to shuffling within albums and playlists. The new Spotify Plus subscription costs one-tenth of the ad-free and unrestricted Premium subscription which is currently priced at $ 9.99 per month.
The news of the new subscription was initially shared by a Spotify user and later confirmed by the company which stated that it is experimenting with the new plan for some users. However, Spotify warned that there is no guarantee that the new subscription tier will launch in its current form and concluded by stating that the company currently has no further information to share.
