Google officially announced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro early this morning, equipped with Google’s own chip, which will be released this fall. Google’s official announcement today did not reveal much information, but in a follow-up interview, Google stated that the Pixel 6 series will be equipped with under-screen fingerprint recognition, instead of giving up the under-screen handset in Pixel 5 and returning to the traditional handset design.
Google did not say whether the fingerprint recognition under the screen is optical or ultrasonic, but given that the Android 12 code mentions support for HBM or high-brightness mode, it is more likely to be optical fingerprint recognition.
Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of equipment and services, said in an interview with German media Osterloh that Pixel 6 Pro will be a mainstream high-end product, so the price (in Germany) may not be cheap.
In addition, the highlight of the Pixel 6 series will be the self-developed Tensor chip, which can be improved in photography, voice assistant, translation, etc., and can automatically translate subtitles locally.
