On the occasion of Google I/O 2021, held in May, the Mountain View giant announced the biggest revolution for the Wear OS platform, the new version of which saw a collaboration with Samsung to make various improvements, starting with those relating to autonomy.
Google has decided to leave behind almost the entire current Wear OS-based watch catalog and this major update will only be released for select models. Other smartwatches are about to be launched in these weeks, including some from Mobvoi and it seems that these devices at the time of their debut on the market will have to do without Wear OS 3, which will only be implemented later.
As we learn from 9to5Google, in the past few hours Mobvoi has confirmed that TicWatch Pro 3 and TicWatch E3 will be updated to Wear OS 3 and added that more smartwatches are on the way, specifying that they are suitable devices to be updated to the new system operating. This suggests that Mobvoi plans to launch a few more smartwatches between late 2021 and early next year, devices that are likely to be updated to the new version of the OS around mid-2022.
Watches eligible for Wear OS 3 upgrade:
- TicWatch Pro 3 GPS
- TicWatch Pro 3 Cellular/LTE
- TicWatch E3
- Future TicWatch devices
We expect our partners to be able to roll out the system update starting in the mid to second half of 2022.
It must be pointed out that this is roughly the same situation in which Fossil finds itself, which has already confirmed that it will launch new Wear OS products by the end of the year that will be launched on the market with the current version of Wear OS, expecting to receive an upgrade in 2022.
At the moment there are no details on when Mobvoi plans to announce these new TicWatch models but we would not be surprised if, in the end, the manufacturer decides to launch them directly with the new OS on board.
