Android Auto is undoubtedly a very convenient system for managing calls, multimedia content and maps on the go but, given the wide variety of smartphones and vehicle hardware, users often face various bugs and problems.
An example is represented by the problems that for a couple of years the owners of some Ford vehicles have encountered in the management of calls on Android Auto and for which, according to Google, the manufacturer is working to implement a solution.
The problem reports we refer to date back to 2019 and speak of incoming calls with no audio (in both directions) on some Ford vehicles, which makes the functionality completely unusable while the outgoing ones have no bugs whatsoever. The first report concerned a Google Pixel 2 and a 2019 Ford F-150 but the same problem was encountered by other users with other Ford cars, such as Explorer, Fiesta, Escape, etc.
The common denominator of this problem appears to be the Ford Sync software platform, with which Android Auto interacts to receive calls and other audio through the car’s speakers. Specifically, it would be versions 3.1 and 3.2 of Ford Sync.
A member of Google’s Android Auto team confirmed in a recent comment on the Mountain View giant’s support forum (you can find it here ) that Ford has developed a solution for the problem but hasn’t announced when the fix will be released or if it will also be made available to users with vehicles running a newer version of the Ford Sync software.
The Mountain View giant suggests users contact Ford customer service for more information on how to get the necessary update.
