According to the latest publicized technology patents, Microsoft is considering using a floating hinge similar to the iPad Pro for the Surface product line. The patent is called Computer Device Hinge and was published and included on July 22 this year.
The patent describes a more complex hinge mechanism that can lift the screen to the base. It will also allow the screen to be pulled forward, closer to the user, making the use of the touch screen and stylus more direct.
Of course, such a hinge design is easily associated with the magic keyboard of the iPad Pro. It has a keyboard and trackpad, but it also lifts Apple’s tablet to make it in a more ergonomic and comfortable position.
But unlike the Magic Keyboard, the tablet part and the base are not separated in Microsoft’s design. The entire product is a single, more flexible laptop. As Windows Central pointed out, this is not the first time we have seen this concept from a PC manufacturer. HP’s Elite Folio and Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel provides such a layout that allows the touch screen to be pulled forward so that it covers the laptop keyboard instead of the touchpad.
