Google is testing a new widget for its Chrome browser for Android. The new widget contains shortcuts to your favorite websites and you can already test the widget in Chrome Canary.
New Google Chrome widget
You can already try the new widget by going to chrome://flags and enabling the ‘Quick Action Search Widget’ flag. After that, you need to restart the browser and then search the widgets menu on your phone for the Quick Actions and Search widget.
Below you can see what the widget looks like, very empty indeed. There is a search bar and below that there is room for four shortcuts. Unfortunately, the shortcuts don’t work at the moment. The search function only opens the most recently opened tab, so no search.
According to 9to5Google, Google will surprisingly call the widget Shortcuts Widget and one of the buttons on the widget will be a Dino button. With this button, you start the offline dinosaur game from Google in the browser, for the moments when you do not have an internet connection.

People with an iPhone and Chrome v90 can already use no fewer than three different shortcut widgets:
- Quick Actions widget with a search bar, a shortcut to open an incognito window, a shortcut for voice search, and a shortcut to open a QR code scanner.
- Two one-tile widgets that allow you to quickly search or launch the Chrome Dino game.
Below is a screenshot of MacRumors showing the widgets in Chrome for iOS.
As stated, the new Shortcuts widget does not yet work in the latest Chrome Canary release. So it will probably be a while before we get to see the widget in the stable version of Google Chrome for Android.
